  • The vast Lisbon wine region was formerly known as Estremadura . The climate, with a strong Atlantic influence, is tempered by its proximity to the sea, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The soils vary between clay-limestone, clayey and sandy, which contributes to the great variety of wines produced.
  • The CVR Lisboa (Lisbon Regional Wine Commission) is the entity responsible for regulating and guaranteeing the quality of wines from the region. The DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) Lisboa, created in 2008, encompasses several sub-regions, each with its own particularities, such as Alenquer , Bucelas , Colares , Encostas d'Aire , Óbidos , and Torres Vedras . The Lisbon region presents a great diversity of grape varieties. Among the reds, Castelão , Aragonez , Touriga Nacional , Syrah , and Cabernet Sauvignon stand out. Among the whites, the most planted are Arinto , Fernão Pires , and Moscatel de Setúbal .
